Visit St. John’s

Looking for a new church home and think you’d like to visit St. John’s in Stamford? Here are a few tips to help you feel more comfortable and welcomed at our church!

Where is St. John’s Church located?

St. John’s is located at 201 S. Ferguson St. in Stamford, Texas. We are the big brown brick church building with the steeples, just off the downtown square. Our bell rings every Sunday at the start of service. You can’t miss it!

I want to come on Sunday but don’t know when things start.

Our Sunday School Bible classes start at 10 a.m., with donuts and coffee available from 9:30 a.m. until morning worship, which starts at 10:50 a.m. Stick around after service on the fourth Sunday of the month for the fellowship meal!

What should I wear to Sunday Morning Services?

At St. John’s, we’re not stuffy. Some of us worship in our Sunday suits and dresses, others in jeans and boots or tennis shoes. Wear what you have, and know that you are welcome!

Ok, I’m at St. John’s, but where do I go now?

We know, we have a lot of doors! The best entrance is the southeast entrance, facing the main parking lot. When you enter, you will find our sanctuary, nursery, and offices on the second floor. Grade school, middle school, and high school classes are on the upper floor, while the lower level hosts our adult and pre-K / kindergarten Sunday School classes, coffee and donuts, and our fellowship hall. If you feel lost, there are always people available on lower level or in the back of the sanctuary to give directions and escort you where you need to go!

Where do my kids go when we arrive at church?

At St. John’s we are both child and family friendly. We have a variety of classes for kids of all ages on Sunday mornings, and the nursery is open during service for children four and under. Of course all children are welcome in the worship service! We know that children fuss sometimes, make noise occasionally, and from time to time desperately need to wiggle. We view children as a blessing, and gladly accept their presence with family.

What is the service like on Sunday morning?

Our Sunday morning service is a mix of traditional and modern, but not at all flashy. We start with a song and a welcome, make our weekly announcements, and have a brief children’s lesson before worship, prayer, scripture, and the message. There is time to receive prayer at the altar at the end of the service, if that is desired, and every fourth Sunday of the month we end the service by eating together down in the fellowship hall.

How long are Sunday services?

Most Sunday services at St. John’s last one hour or less. The length of services can vary depending on special events such as baptisms, special prayer times, etc.

Will I be recognized publicly as a visitor?

We know visiting a new church in a small town can be daunting. To avoid unwanted attention we do not publicly recognize you as a visitor, though we will greet you and present you with a welcome gift sometime before or after the service. We are glad you have chosen to join us for worship!
